    Walker Percy (), born and raised in the South, was a member of that rare breed of southern Catholic writers. His grandfather and later his father committed suicide. Then followed a car accident in which his mother died, Percy concluding on his own that this was yet another : Carl Sundell. I was first introduced to the writing of Walker Percy () several years ago and have been hooked ever since. The Moviegoer was the first book by Percy I read. It was also his first novel, the winner of the National Book Award in   Walker Percy (–) was one of the most prominent American writers of the twentieth century.
